Personal Review
My AskNow Experience: The Budget Option That Surprised Me Once
AskNow was the last platform I tried, and I’ll be honest — I almost skipped it. By this point I’d done over 40 readings across five platforms and was starting to feel like I had a solid understanding of the landscape. AskNow’s marketing was less polished than the competition, and I wasn’t sure it would offer anything new.
I’m glad I gave it a chance. Not because AskNow blew me away — it didn’t — but because one of my four readings here was startlingly accurate in a way that reminded me why I started this project in the first place.
The Platform: No-Frills and Functional
AskNow is primarily a phone-based platform. The website is simple — you browse readers, check their profiles and reviews, and call. There’s no flashy app like Purple Garden, no decades of legacy like Psychic Source. It’s straightforward and efficient.
The reader selection is smaller than Keen but still substantial. Profiles are organized by specialty, and each reader has customer ratings and reviews. Nothing about the experience is remarkable in either direction — it just works.
The Orchid Prediction
Here’s the reading that made AskNow worth including in my experiment. I called about my relationship with my mother, which had become a source of real pain during the divorce. My mom had sided with David — not explicitly, but she’d made comments that made it clear she thought I should have “tried harder.” We hadn’t spoken in two months.
The reader listened to my question and then said: “Your mother is going to reach out. In the spring. But the apology won’t be an apology — it will be sideways. She’ll show you rather than tell you. There’s something about flowers or a plant.”
I filed this away as a nice thought and mostly forgot about it. Then, in March, my doorbell rang on a Saturday morning. My mother was standing there holding an orchid. She didn’t mention the divorce. She didn’t apologize. She just said, “I thought your new place could use some life,” and came in and made dinner. We ate together on my little kitchen floor (I only had two chairs and they were both at the desk) and talked about nothing important.
It was the most important meal I’ve had in years. The orchid sits on my kitchen windowsill. I water it every Sunday and think of my mom. And the reader who described a “sideways apology through flowers” predicted this months before it happened.
The Other Three Readings
My other three AskNow readings were decent but unremarkable. One was a general love reading that offered some nice reassurance but nothing specific. Another was about my career and was accurate in broad strokes but lacked the detail I got from readers on other platforms. The third was a quick 10-minute check-in that felt rushed — the reader was professional but seemed to be going through the motions.
This is the pattern I noticed with AskNow: competent but not exceptional, with occasional flashes of genuine insight. The overall average is lower than my top-ranked platforms, but the price point is also lower, which makes it a reasonable trade-off for budget-conscious users.
What AskNow Does Well
- Affordability: The most budget-friendly platform I tested
- Introductory packages: Generous first-time offers that make trying it nearly risk-free
- Phone efficiency: If you want a quick phone reading without bells and whistles, AskNow delivers
- Simplicity: No learning curve, no complicated features — just pick a reader and call
Where AskNow Falls Short
- Quality ceiling: Even the best reading here didn’t match my top experiences on California Psychics or Psychic Source
- Limited formats: Primarily phone; chat and video options are limited
- Less detailed profiles: Reader profiles have less information than competing platforms
- Fewer reviews: Harder to pre-screen readers based on customer feedback
Pricing
AskNow is genuinely affordable. Introductory packages often work out to well under $1 per minute for your first reading. Regular rates range from about $3 to $13 per minute, which is below most competitors. My 4 readings totaled $171, averaging about $43 per session — though my first reading was significantly cheaper thanks to the intro offer.
Would I Recommend AskNow?
Yes, specifically for two situations: if you’re on a tight budget and want phone readings, or if you’ve already tried the higher-ranked platforms and want to explore another option. It won’t be the best reading you’ve ever had, but it’s reliable and affordable, and you might get lucky with a reader who surprises you — like the one who predicted my mother’s orchid.
