The Best Online Psychic Platforms: My Honest Rankings After 6 Months and $2,347
I was a skeptic. Then I was desperate. Then I spent six months methodically testing every major psychic platform. Here’s what I found.
Quick note:This page contains affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you sign up through my links. But I want to be crystal clear — I tried and reviewed these platforms long before I became an affiliate. My rankings are based on my actual experience, and I’ve been just as honest about the platforms I didn’t love as the ones I did. Full details on my disclosure page.
How I Tested These Platforms
Before I get into rankings, let me explain my process. I’m an accountant by trade, so when I decided to actually research psychic platforms, I did it the only way I know how — with a spreadsheet.
Over six months (October 2025 through March 2026), I completed 47 readings across six platforms. For each reading, I tracked:
- The platform and reader name
- Type of reading (phone, chat, or video)
- Cost per minute and total cost
- Specific claims or predictions made
- How I felt during and after the reading
- Whether predictions came true (checked at 1 month and 3 months)
- Overall satisfaction rating (1-10)
I also evaluated each platform on ease of use, reader selection, pricing transparency, customer support, and refund policy. I contacted customer support on every platform at least once to test responsiveness.
Here’s the full story, starting with my overall rankings and then going deep on each platform. If you want even more detail on any platform, I’ve linked to my individual reviews throughout.
My Overall Rankings
After everything, here’s how I rank the six platforms I tested. I’ll explain each one in detail below.
- California Psychics — Best overall quality (4.6/5)
- Keen — Best for first-time users (4.5/5)
- Psychic Source — Best for video readings (4.5/5)
- Kasamba — Best for chat readings (4.3/5)
- Purple Garden — Best mobile experience (4.0/5)
- AskNow — Best for quick phone readings (3.8/5)
Now let me tell you exactly why, with stories from my actual readings.
#1. California Psychics
Total spent: $623 · 11 readings · Avg satisfaction: 8.4/10
Why They’re #1
California Psychics was the most expensive platform I used, and also the most consistently impressive. The reason is simple: they screen their readers. Not every psychic who applies gets accepted, and you can feel the difference. Out of 11 readings, I had 8 that I’d rate as good to excellent. That’s a 73% hit rate, which was the best of any platform.
My best reading of the entire six months happened here. It was a phone call with a reader I’ll call M (I don’t use real names to protect their privacy). I called her about my divorce — specifically about whether David was being honest about the financial settlement. I didn’t tell M any of this. I just said I had questions about a difficult situation.
Within two minutes, M told me there was a document I hadn’t seen — something financial that was being kept from me. She said there was a third party involved, not romantically but professionally, someone advising David to hide something. She told me to ask about a retirement account.
I hadn’t mentioned divorce, money, David, or anything related. My lawyer later discovered that David had failed to disclose a 401(k) from a previous employer worth approximately $34,000. His financial advisor had apparently suggested it might be “overlooked.” It wasn’t, thanks to M.
That single reading probably saved me $17,000 in my divorce settlement. It cost $67.
Pricing
California Psychics is on the pricier side. Standard rates range from $4 to $15 per minute depending on the reader’s tier (Popular, Preferred, or Premium). New users get a special introductory rate — when I signed up, I got my first reading at $1 per minute, which is how I was able to try several readers without breaking the bank initially.
The tier system actually helps. Popular-tier readers are newer or less established, but I had a great reading with one who was clearly talented but hadn’t built up her client base yet. Preferred-tier readers are the sweet spot for value. Premium readers are expensive but often worth it for important questions.
The Experience
The platform itself feels professional and a bit old-school — it’s not as modern-looking as Purple Garden, but it works well. They’re primarily a phone-based service, though they’ve added chat. The satisfaction guarantee is genuine — I used it once when I had a reading that felt generic, and they credited my account within 24 hours, no questions asked.
One thing I really appreciated: the readers here were more likely to give me hard truths rather than sugar-coated reassurance. The reader who predicted David’s return and told me to say no? That was here. I was paying $9/minute to hear something I didn’t want to hear, and it was the best money I spent.
Who It’s Best For
If you have an important, specific question — a major life decision, a relationship crossroads, a situation where accuracy really matters — California Psychics is where I’d send you. It’s not the cheapest, but the screening means you’re less likely to waste money on a mediocre reader.
#2. Keen
Total spent: $487 · 12 readings · Avg satisfaction: 7.8/10
Why It’s Special to Me
Keen will always hold a special place in my heart because it’s where I had my first reading — the one at 11pm on the worst night of my life. That experience alone would make me biased toward them, so I’ve tried to be extra objective in my assessment. And objectively, Keen earns the #2 spot.
What Keen does best is accessibility. The platform is enormous — thousands of readers across every specialty imaginable. This is both a strength and a weakness. The strength is that you can almost certainly find someone who fits what you’re looking for. The weakness is that with so many readers, the quality varies wildly.
Of my 12 readings on Keen, about 7 were good (58% hit rate). That’s lower than California Psychics, but the introductory pricing and sheer variety make it the best place to start if you’ve never had a reading before.
My Most Memorable Keen Reading
Beyond that first reading, my most memorable Keen experience was with a tarot reader who connected with me through chat. I was asking about my career — whether I should leave my job during the divorce (my therapist and friends were all saying “don’t make any big changes right now”).
This reader pulled cards and then typed something that stopped me cold: “There’s an opportunity coming in February that involves a woman with authority. It’s something you’d normally say no to because it feels like too much right now. Say yes.”
In February, my department head (a woman) asked if I wanted to take over a project that involved managing a small team. My instinct was to say no — I was barely holding it together emotionally. But I remembered the reading. I said yes. That project led to a promotion three months later with a 15% raise.
Coincidence? Maybe. But the specificity of “February,” “woman with authority,” and “say yes to what feels like too much” is hard to dismiss.
Pricing
Keen offers some of the best introductory rates in the industry. New users get their first reading at a significantly reduced rate — I paid about $1.99 per minute for my first call. After that, rates vary by reader, typically ranging from $2 to $30+ per minute. Most of the readers I used were in the $3-8 range, which felt reasonable.
They also frequently offer credits and promotions for returning users. I got several “We miss you” offers with bonus minutes, which helped stretch my budget.
Who It’s Best For
If you’re new to psychic readings and want to explore without a huge commitment, Keen is the best starting point. The introductory pricing means your first reading can cost under $10, and the massive reader selection means you can try different styles (tarot, clairvoyant, medium, etc.) to see what resonates with you.
#3. Psychic Source
Total spent: $356 · 8 readings · Avg satisfaction: 8.1/10
The Video Reading That Changed Everything
Psychic Source is tied with Keen in my overall rating, but it’s ranked #3 only because I had fewer readings here (and therefore less data). In terms of quality per reading, it might actually be the best.
The standout feature is video readings. I was terrified of these at first — phone felt anonymous and safe, chat even more so, but showing my face to a psychic? That felt intensely vulnerable. But when I finally tried it, the experience was on another level.
There’s something about being seen — literally, face to face — that deepens the connection. My first video reading was with a reader who specialized in energy healing. She looked at me through the screen, was quiet for about ten seconds (which felt like an eternity), and then said, “You’re clenching your jaw. You’ve been clenching it for months. The grief is in your body, not just your mind.”
She was right. I’d been waking up with headaches every morning from grinding my teeth in my sleep. My dentist had just told me I needed a mouth guard. But this reader didn’t just observe a physical symptom — she connected it to the emotional work I needed to do around letting go. That reading led me to start yoga, which genuinely helped my healing process.
The Platform Experience
Psychic Source has been around since 1989, and it shows in the best way — they’ve had decades to refine their screening process and platform. The website is clean and easy to navigate. Reader profiles are detailed, with actual customer reviews that feel genuine (not curated or filtered).
They also screen their readers, similar to California Psychics. The approval rate is reportedly low, which means the overall quality is high. Of my 8 readings, 6 were good or excellent (75% hit rate — technically the highest, though with a smaller sample).
Pricing
Introductory rates are competitive — I got my first reading for as low as $1 per minute. Regular rates range from $4 to $15 per minute. Video readings tend to be slightly more expensive, but the experience justifies it in my opinion. They also offer a satisfaction guarantee.
Who It’s Best For
If you value depth over convenience and you’re comfortable with face-to-face interaction, Psychic Source is exceptional. The video readings create an intimacy that phone and chat can’t match. It’s also great if you want a more spiritual, healing-oriented experience rather than just predictive readings.
#4. Kasamba
Total spent: $412 · 9 readings · Avg satisfaction: 7.5/10
Where I Found My Favorite Reader
Kasamba ranks #4 overall, but it’s where I found the single reader I still go back to regularly. Her name (her screen name, anyway) was like finding a therapist who also happened to be psychic. The chat format felt strangely intimate — like texting with someone who could see inside your head.
The reason Kasamba doesn’t rank higher overall is inconsistency. Of my 9 readings, the ones with my go-to reader were 9/10 or 10/10. The rest ranged from mediocre to one genuinely bad experience where a reader tried to upsell me on a “curse removal” (a major red flag, and I reported them to the platform immediately).
The Chat Reading Experience
If you’re like me and the idea of talking on the phone to a stranger about your deepest fears is terrifying, Kasamba’s chat format is perfect. There’s something about typing out your questions that forces you to be more precise, and the written responses give you a record you can go back to.
I’d often screenshot my readings and revisit them weeks later. Some things that didn’t make sense at the time clicked perfectly in hindsight. My reader once typed, “There’s a blue door that’s important. You’ll know when you see it.” Three weeks later, I went to look at the apartment I ended up renting. The front door was painted cobalt blue. When I saw it, I got chills and signed the lease that day. It’s turned out to be exactly the right place for this chapter of my life.
Pricing
Kasamba offers free minutes for first-time customers with each new reader, which is a genuinely great way to test compatibility before committing. After the free trial, rates vary widely — from about $2 to $30+ per minute. My favorite reader charges in the mid-range, around $5-6 per minute for chat, which I consider very fair for the quality.
Who It’s Best For
If you prefer typing over talking, or if you want a written record of your readings, Kasamba is the platform for you. It’s also good for people who want to try multiple readers without financial risk, thanks to the free trial minutes with each new reader. Just be cautious and read reviews carefully — the quality range is wide.
#5. Purple Garden
Total spent: $298 · 5 readings · Avg satisfaction: 7.0/10
The Modern Option
Purple Garden is the newest-feeling platform I tried, and it shows in the design. The app is slick, the interface is intuitive, and the reader profiles feel more like social media than a traditional psychic directory. If you’re a millennial or Gen Z user who’d feel weird navigating a website that looks like it was built in 2005, Purple Garden is designed for you.
The reader pool skews younger than other platforms, which isn’t inherently good or bad, but it does create a different vibe. The readings I had here felt more casual and conversational. Whether that’s a pro or con depends on what you’re looking for.
The Highs and Lows
My experience on Purple Garden was the most inconsistent. I had one reading that was genuinely among my top five across all platforms — a video reading with a young clairvoyant who described the layout of my new apartment without being told anything about it, including the fact that I had a cat (I’d adopted one the week before; there was no way she could have known).
But I also had two readings that were vague to the point of being useless — generic reassurances that could apply to anyone. The quality gap between the best and worst readings here was wider than on any other platform.
Pricing
Pricing is competitive. They offer introductory credits for new users, and regular rates tend to be slightly lower than California Psychics or Psychic Source. The app-based model keeps things transparent — you can see your balance and spending in real time, which I appreciated for budget management.
Who It’s Best For
If you want a modern, app-first experience and don’t mind spending some time finding the right reader through trial and error, Purple Garden is worth exploring. It’s particularly good for younger users who might feel out of place on more traditional platforms.
#6. AskNow
Total spent: $171 · 4 readings · Avg satisfaction: 6.8/10
Quick and Affordable
AskNow is the platform I used least, and I want to be upfront that my sample size (4 readings) is small. I ranked it last not because it’s bad — it’s perfectly decent — but because nothing about it stood out as exceptional compared to the others.
That said, it has one clear strength: quick phone readings. If you want to call someone right now and get a reading in 10-15 minutes without a lot of ceremony, AskNow is efficient at that. The platform is no-frills and straightforward.
The One Reading That Surprised Me
I almost didn’t include AskNow in my testing because, honestly, it had the least polished marketing. But I’m glad I gave it a shot, because one of my four readings here was startlingly accurate.
I called about a family situation — my relationship with my mother, which had become strained during the divorce (she sided with David, which is a whole other story). The reader told me my mother would reach out in the spring with an apology, but that the apology would be “sideways” — not direct, but through an action. She said something about flowers.
In March, my mother showed up at my apartment unannounced with a plant — an orchid, specifically — and made dinner without saying a word about the past six months. She never actually said “I’m sorry,” but she didn’t need to. The orchid sits on my kitchen windowsill. The “sideways apology” described it perfectly.
Pricing
AskNow is one of the more affordable options. Introductory packages are generous — when I signed up, I got a bundle that worked out to well under $1 per minute for my first reading. Regular rates range from about $3 to $13 per minute, making it one of the most budget-friendly platforms.
Who It’s Best For
If you’re on a budget and want phone readings specifically, AskNow is a solid choice. It’s not going to blow you away with its platform design or reader selection, but it’s reliable and affordable.

What I Wish I’d Known Before I Started
Looking back on six months and $2,347, here are the things that would have saved me the most money and heartache:
1. The Reader Matters More Than the Platform
I cannot stress this enough. A great reader on an average platform will give you a better experience than a mediocre reader on a great platform. Once you find a reader who connects with you, stick with them. Don’t platform-hop looking for something better — you’ll waste money.
That said, platforms that screen their readers (like California Psychics and Psychic Source) improve your odds of finding someone good on the first or second try.
2. Introductory Rates Are Genuinely Valuable
Every platform offers discounted rates for new users. Use them. Sign up for each platform and use the introductory rate to get a sense of the reader quality and platform experience. This alone could save you hundreds of dollars in the exploring phase.
3. Be Specific, Not Passive
“Tell me about my future” is the worst way to start a reading. The best readings I had were when I came in with a specific question: “I’m facing a decision about X and I’m torn between Y and Z.” Specificity gives the reader something to focus on and gives you something measurable to evaluate.
I wrote a whole guide on this: how to prepare for a psychic reading.
4. Set a Budget and Stick to It
I didn’t, and I regret it. Psychic readings can become emotionally addictive, especially when you’re going through something hard. There were weeks when I was doing 2-3 readings because I wanted reassurance, not guidance. Those readings were almost always wasteful.
My advice: no more than one reading per week, and set a monthly budget you can afford to lose entirely. If the reading gives you value, great. If not, you haven’t compromised your finances.
5. Red Flags Are Real
If a reader tells you that you have a curse that needs removing, hang up. If they say you need to buy candles, crystals, or special items from them, hang up. If they create urgency (“You need another reading immediately or something bad will happen”), hang up. Legitimate readers give you guidance and let you decide when to come back.
6. It’s Not a Replacement for Professional Help
I used psychic readings alongside therapy, not instead of it. If you’re in a mental health crisis, please reach out to a licensed professional first. Psychic readings can be a wonderful complement to therapy, but they’re not the same thing.
Different Situations, Different Recommendations
Based on everything I’ve experienced, here are my specific recommendations for different situations:
If You’ve Never Had a Reading Before
Start with Keen. The introductory pricing is forgiving, the platform is easy to navigate, and the massive reader selection means you can explore different reading styles. Read my preparation guide first.
If You Have an Important Life Decision
Go to California Psychics. The screened readers and higher quality floor mean you’re more likely to get a reading that actually helps. Yes, it costs more. It’s worth it for the big questions.
If You Want Deep Emotional/Spiritual Guidance
Psychic Source, especially their video readings. The face-to-face connection creates a depth that other formats can’t match.
If You Prefer Writing Over Talking
Kasamba is the clear winner for chat readings. The written format also gives you a record to reference later, which I found incredibly valuable.
If You’re on a Tight Budget
AskNow offers the most affordable readings, and Keen’s introductory rates are also very budget-friendly.
If You Want a Modern App Experience
Purple Garden has the best mobile interface by far. Just spend time reading reviews to find quality readers.
The Bigger Picture
I want to end this ranking with something that might surprise you. The most valuable thing I got from $2,347 worth of psychic readings wasn’t a prediction. It wasn’t finding out about David’s hidden 401(k). It wasn’t even the comfort on my worst nights.
The most valuable thing was learning to ask better questions. Through dozens of readings and conversations with readers who pushed me to be more specific, more honest, more vulnerable, I learned to ask the questions I’d been avoiding — not just of psychics, but of myself.
“Will David come back?” became “Do I want him to come back?” which became “Why am I afraid to be alone?” which became “What would my life look like if I chose it intentionally instead of reactively?”
That progression — from desperation to curiosity to agency — is worth more than any prediction. And the right psychic reader can help you get there faster.
I wrote more about this in what I actually learned from six months of psychic readings.
